Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Dov Kalmanovich, who is affiliated with the dati leumi tzibur, on Sunday sent a letter to Jerusalem Police Chief Yehoram Levi pertaining to vandalism to the Kiryat Yovel – Bayit Vegan eruv.
In his letter, Kalmanovich explains there has been vandalism to the eruv in recent weeks, and this compromised the erev to both Kiryat Yovel and Bayit Vegan.
The letter continues, “This letter joins the letters from Jerusalem Chief Rabbi Aryeh Stern Shlita and the Jerusalem Rabbinate’s head of the eruv unit.
“The eruv is the responsibility of the Jerusalem Religious Council, a government body, and therefore, vandalism is a violation of the law that in addition to having impact on religious life and being an offensive to the tzibur’s religious sensitivities.
“Of late, there has been growing conflict between Kiryat Yovel’s religious and secular extremists who are working to inflame the fires of hate surrounding these religious issues.
“I call upon you to act to apprehend the extremists responsible, and to bring them to justice.”
