Attorney Uri Paz, submitted a formal request on Thursday to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, ahead of the expected visit by the Minister of Immigration and Absorption Sofa Landver in Ashdod. Landver, who is a member of Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu party, is expected to support Chillul Shabbos during her visit in a public fashion and Paz has, therefore, requested that all Ministers of the Government and MKs be instructed to cease and desist from causing such incitement and breaking one of the foundational laws of Israel.
The opening of stores on Shabbos goes against the decision of the High Court of Justice and the support that members of the Yisrael Beitenu party are publicly showing for these stores in Ashdod, not only supports the stores to go against the High Court’s Ruling and the basic law of Israel, but also brings extra desecration of the day, due to the highly publicized and sensationalized visit and media coverage.
Landver’s visit is planned for this coming Shabbos, and Paz’s letter requests that Mandelblit use quick measures to stop her intended visit, whether it can be done by regular methods or even drastic methods such as opening an investigation or utilizing lawful police enforcement.
The letter also stresses that the actions taken by Landver’s party leader, Defense Minister Avigdr Lieberman go against the law and a formal investigation should be opened against Lieberman as well.
