Tzefas Chief Sephardic Rabbi HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Eliyahu continued his criticism of IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott, telling the ‘Kan Moreshet Radio’ (כאן מורשת) that the IDF officer who ran over the terrorist near Ariel who had just stabbed Rabbi Ben-Gal HY”D should have then shot him too.
The Rav told radio host Mendy Bitan, “If the army adopts a strange leftist agenda, it is our obligation to warn people. Yesterday, an IDF officer saw a terrorist murder a Jewish man and instead of emptying a gun magazine, he tried to run him over with a car. I do not blame the officer for what he did, but rather the one who signed it; Eizenkott, who said that there is no need to empty a gun magazine for someone who murdered a Jew. If that’s the spirit of the commander, then this is the result.”
Rabbi Eliyahu was asked if he was in conflict with the IDF and replied: “We are the army. My sons and my students serve in the IDF, and the Chief of Staff is not G-D and it is permissible to criticize him and his decisions. The officer who instead of killing the terrorist tried to run him over was not to blame. The evil spirit [existing in the IDF] must be uprooted.”
Rav Eliyahu recently called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to oust Chief Eizenkott over his controversial policy of introducing female combatants into gender-mixed units.

Well, of course. The soldier didn’t want to end up like Elor Azaria. The system stinks. The judges are corrupt. The corrupt government doesn’t want to upset the editorial board of the NY Times or the reporters of the BBC/NPR. Which sane person would ever want to join such a coward army?
