Magen David Adom received the call for the serious motor vehicle accident at 11:15pm on Tuesday night, 7 Shevat. The accident was on Route 557 near Shavei Shomron in Shomron, involving an Israeli and PA (Palestinian Authority) vehicle. According to the MDA report, there were a total of 11 persons injured, six Israelis and five PA residents. IDF medical personnel including trauma physicians worked on the scene along with MDA and United Hatzalah paramedics and EMTs.
Eleven people were injured including six Israelis, with the latter being all from one family from Shavei Shomron. As a result, Ohr Lipnik, 13, was killed along with her brother, Roi, 8. A 21-year-old PA resident, Fatchi Abed Alkram Abu Sneb was also killed. He died in a Tulkarem hospital where they were transported to.
The mother, Shirly, 35, and a 12-year-old child were seriously injured and transported after being intubated. The father, Ohad, 35, was listed as light-to-moderate. A five-month-old infant was injured lightly but was treated in a pediatric ICU. The PA wounded were transported to a hospital in Tulkarem. The Israelis were transported to Meir Hospital in Kfar Sava.
United Hatzalah EMT Yehuda Hass, who heads the Shomron Division of the organization, explains when he arrived on the scene with a paramedic, MDA and fire department rescue units were already on the scene as were units from the Red Crescent.
Hass explained the scene was a difficult one and there was a need to extricate some of the occupants from the twisted remains of the vehicles.
Officials at Meir Hospital on Wednesday morning released the following update: The father of the family remains in light-to-moderate condition and still undergoing diagnostic tests. The mother is in serious condition and still on assisted breathing along with a 12-year-old boy. He is being operated on this morning. A 5-month-old is listed as stable and an 8-year-old arrived lifeless and pronounced dead.
The preliminary report of the accident indicates the PA vehicle was traveling at excessive speed and lost control, striking a safety barrier and then thrown into the road and blocking the lane of the vehicle of family Lipnik.
