Police Traffic Enforcement In Ramat Shlomo On Shabbos

Residents of Jerusalem’s Ramat Shlomo neighborhood were more than a bit surprised to see police writing parking tickets for vehicles on Shabbos. Police explain vehicles targeted were interfering with the flow of traffic in the area. Residents report at least ten vehicles received summones.

One resident, who parked his vehicle close to candle lighting time explained, “This is the first time we encounter this response from police. It is an outrage that parking tickets are written on Shabbos or to think traffic laws must be enforced on Shabbos.

  1. Finally we are getting equal protection of our rights. But they still don’t get it. Why on Shabbos? Let them come during the week and on Erev Shabbos. Yes, the cars were interfering with the flow of pedestrian traffic. Parking on the sidewalk and in crosswalks is gross inconsideration. Some respect for the community would be in order. The parking laws are for our benefit. Whoever disregards them needs to be taught a lesson. Consider your tickets your tuition and never do it again. Thank you.
Why should chareidi neighborhoods reek of lawlessness and disorderliness! It’s a shame and chillul Hashem.

  2. Since there should be no traffic on Shabbos in Ramat Shlomo, there should be no tickets. The cars should be moved immediately after Shabbos or they could them be ticketed. Shame on the police!

  3. To ahavas_yisroel: 1. Cars are not moved immediately after Shabbos. 2. Sometimes there is vehicular traffic in Ramat Shlomo. Ambulances do come and go. The roads must be totally accessible for emergencies at all times. 3. There is pedestrian traffic on Shabbos in Ramat Shlomo. 4. There should be respect for the law and public order. Often people feel free to park illegally and inconvenience the public when there is a free space just across the street. Bad parking habits have to be broken because they are practiced when not warrented. No one can decide the law for himself. Usually it’s bad judgement for someone who has no right to be a judge.
