For many who traveled to Eretz Yisrael and hired a tour guide in the past, the name Rabbi Yehuda Bohrer is a familiar one. Rabbi Bohrer was niftar on Shabbos at the age of 88. Rabbi Bohrer, an immigrant from the United States, was best known for his passion for Eretz Yisrael, which was evident when he guided or simply in a conversation with him. So many merited having Rabbi Bohrer travel with them, as he imparted his passion for Eretz HaKodesh to those around him. Walking Eretz Yisrael was possibly his greatest love. There was no group too small for him as he worked to share his love for Hashem’s gift with his visitors, hoping to infect them with his passion.
Born in Europe, he moved to the USA where he received semicha from Yeshiva University, as well as earning a PhD. In Jewish history. He moved to Eretz Yisrael and was among the founders of Yishuv Beit El some forty years ago. He lived in a modest home with his wife Helen and their family, working for Beit El Institutions as a guide, using the money he earned to help building the community.
Simply stated, he was an Eretz Yisrael scholar, who also researched and published books. His tours were so animated by his passion, they were unforgettable slices of the Holy Land as delivered by none other.
The levaya bean on Sunday at 11:00am at the main shul in his beloved community of Beit El and kvura was in the community cemetery.
