Electric bicycles are becoming increasingly commonplace in Israel and their involvement in accidents is also on the rise.
Police from time-to-time announce regulations governing the operation of an electric bicycle, making operators aware that failure to comply with the regulations may result in fine or confiscation of the bicycle.
The main regulations include:
1. One may only ride in the street, in the direction of traffic. One may not operate the bicycle on sidewalks
2. One must wear a helmet at all times
3. One may not take riders
4. The bikes headlight must be on while traveling at night
5. One may not hold a cellphone or other object. One must use a hands-free device for a mobile phone
6. The bicycle may not travel faster than 25 KPH (15 MPH)

One Response
The same rules apply to ordinary bikes as well. And in Israel if a bike is caught breaking traffic rules, e.g. by riding on the sidewalk or in the wrong direction, the policeman can let the air out of the tires.
