Kiryat Yam city officials have filed a complaint with police against Google. Officials say one of Google’s programs, Google Earth, gives viewers false information that hurts the city’s image.
Those who see Kiryat Yam on Google Earth are told that the city was built on the ruins of an Arab town from which innocent civilians were expelled. In fact, officials said, the city was built by Holocaust survivors on land that was completely barren and had not been settled in the past. The false information was placed as part of a deliberate attempt to hurt the city’s interests, they said.

yup sounds to me that the arabs are undermining us with the us of tech. I’m assuming they write the same thing about israel!
These are user-generated descriptions which anyone can submit and has been used for propaganda.
Why don’t we all fill Google Earth with correct descriptions of the origins of each Israeli town to refute it?
This would require some research and work but is the best and most workable response because Google is unlikely to censor politically charged content submitted by its users.
the police that they complained to think and want you to believe the same as google earth and so does the leaders of the Israeli government
Why don’t they look at what Google Earth has to say about Yerushalayim?
Although Google has a company in Israel, they are anti-semetic. Many of their maps document ONLY an extreme Palestenian view. I am surprised, that no one made a “gevald” about this. (I researched this a while ago, but I didn’t document the instances. I was sure that someone who can do something about it will one day notice. After all, I am only a shlepper.)
shlepper:
Funny you should say that. The founders of google are proud jews.
Shlepper, you owe Larry Page and Sergey Brin an apology. You have suggested that two Jews are antisemites on account of the fact that their software is generally based entirely around user input.
If you don’t like what terrorists and supporters of terrorists write on Google Maps and Google Earth, by all means, write something yourself! Just please don’t slander any more of your brothers, okay?
#6. the comments are made by users, any user can post this descriptions if you don’t like the one’s made, just add your own
#7. Only one is and I haven’t found him acknoqledging his yiddishkeit to date. (His wife is reportedly also Jewish)
Just because someone is a Yid does not mean he loves Jews. Very unfortunate, but true. (Of course his neshama loves Jews, but it is in Gulut.)
Yes, some “proud Jews” are not too happy with Orthodox jews. But this is another topic.
Back to Google, first let me say that I use Google stuff all the time and want them to beat Microsoft, again off topic. Sheesh, ok, let me search a bit…
How about this: Original Google MAPS unedited does NOT list a SINGLE city in Israel! Nada! Just the outline of Israel with the West Bank circled off! (Also the Gaza Strip.) Compare that with the surrounding countries, have detail towns and highways! With their native Arabic names to boot. (You wanna know the Arabic name for Cairo, Damascus, Suez Canal? Quick peek at Google Maps.)
This has NOTHING to do with user input.
Goto http://maps.google.com/ enter Israel and Pan around the map a bit. I mean the neighbors, because Israel has NOTHING in it! Even if you zoom.
No, just because you know Larry’s and Serge’s first name, does not mean that they are Jewish OR that I owe them *anything*.
Google owes us Yidden more than an apology.
Shalom, bracha, veHatzlecha.
shlepper.
ps. I hope not to let the Yetzer succeed in splitting our feelings because shtusim like this.
