Major Livestock Theft In Southern Israel Appears To Be A Fraud

An Israel Police Southern District spokesperson reports a report of a huge theft of 435 lamb and sheep from Moshav Ein HaBasor in southern Israel led to suspicions against the farmer for allegedly trying to defraud the Israel Tax Authority in the amount of half a million shekels.

On Sunday, 20 Teves, Israel Police received a report on the theft of 435 lamb and sheep from farm in the moshav in the Eshkol region in the south of the country. When the Border Police received the call, a major investigation was launched, and dozens of border police arrived at the moshav along with regular police and detectives to begin the investigation. In addition, crime scene technicians worked to gather evidence from the scene.

It did not take too long for investigators to realize there was no real theft of the livestock and something was fishy. As they gathered more evidence, it became increasingly clear the owner was trying to use police to perpetrate a fraud. Investigators learned that he may have sold his heard during the year without reporting it to tax authorities, now conjuring up the story of a theft to cover himself and launder the money he received without paying taxes.

At the time of this report, the investigation continues.
