Israel: Beginning On Friday, Increased Fines For Vehicular Violations


Beginning on erev Shabbos 18 Teves, stricter traffic enforcement regulations will go into effect in Israel. in some cases, the punishment will be stricter, including higher fines and more points on once license.

For example, one driving without a license and/or refusing a breathalyzer exam will register 10 points instead of 8. Driving a child without a protective seat will be 8 points instead of 6. A new driver caught without an experienced driver at his side will earn 8 points and will be summoned for a hearing. Speaking on a phone without a hands-free device will be 8 points instead of 4 and driving without seatbelts, 4 points instead of 2.

Other violations listed include driving a motorcycle without a helmet (6 points), or not wearing a reflective vest when exiting one’s vehicle if one breaks down (2 points).

If a driver earns 12 points, he must take a review course. If one accumulates 24-35 points within a four-year period, he must take an advanced driving course and one earning 36 points or more points within four years will lose his license for three months.
