On Wednesday morning, 16 Teves, senior police officials were on hand in the capital for the dedication of the newly rebuilt Ohz Station location on Aler Street in the Amon HaNatziv neighborhood. The ceremony followed several months of renovations and upgrading, both inside and out, for the benefit of police and residents alike.
The Ohz station, which has over 100 officers and policemen, controls about 22 square kilometers, including the neighborhoods of Armon HaNatziv, Arnona, Har Homa, Ramat Rachel, Jabil Mukhaber, Abu Tor Tzur Baher, and more. It is in these areas that police assigned to the station provide services to 136,000 residents.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan, Police Commissioner Roni Alshich, Jerusalem Police Chief Yoram Halevi, the Jerusalem District Command Staff, and the station officers.
Minister of Public Security Erdan: “Our sovereignty is being examined first in Jerusalem, so the new station here in Armon HaNatziv is another step in strengthening security and sovereignty in Jerusalem. I will continue this year to strengthen the security of the city, more policemen, more stations, more means, this is my commitment to the city of Jerusalem and its residents”.
Police Commissioner Roni Alshich: “For a long time, we have been focusing on deepening policing in the Arab sector as part of the accessibility of service to the normative citizen. The opening of the Ohz station is a challenge, one of which is equal service for all citizens living in the sector. As far as serving the normative citizen is concerned, the cooperation of the community is critical. Public trust is a condition for the citizen to turn to the police, and therefore is a condition for the ability to provide optimal police services to the various populations. Each station constitutes for the citizen another chance to have a positive contact with the police. All current public exposure to the police, gradually producing the change. I have no doubt that a citizen who receives quality and culturally oriented police service for his needs feels that the police are there for him, even for the little things that determine his quality of life – and that’s where we as an organization want to be.”
