The Ofir Military Court on Wednesday, 9 Teves convicted terrorist Omar al-Abed of three counts of murder in the trial surrounding the barbaric attack in Yishuv N’vei Tzuf, which claimed the lives of members of the Solomon family. The prosecution asked for four life sentences, with the additional for the injured and acts of barbarism in the attack.
Protesters identifying with ‘Otzma Yehudit’ were outside the Ofir Military Court, as were family members of the terrorists being sentenced for the murders of the members of the Solomon family of N’vei Tzuf HY”D.
Attorney Itamar Ben-Givir, among the leaders of Otzma Yehudit, and Tzvi Sukkot, director of the organization, arrived at the courthouse with a guillotine, copying the protesters who gathered in Tel Aviv on motzei Shabbos, calling for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to stepdown over corruption investigations against him. They carried a large guillotine with them.
Ben-Givir and his fellow protesters shouted against Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, calling for the use of the guillotine against convicted terrorists. This led to counter-shouts by the Arabs at the Jews and the confrontation followed.
Israel Prison Authority personnel separated between the sides. There are no reports of arrests or injuries.
Despite the barbaric attack, the military prosecution did not seek the death penalty in the case, an attack which claimed the lives of Yosef Solomon HY”D (70), Chaya Solomon HY”D (46) and Elad Solomon HY”D (36), a father of five who lives in Elad. The grandmother, 68, was wounded in the attack.
Im Tirtzu Chairman Matan Peleg, whose organization has been assisting the Choosing Life Forum of bereaved families that the Solomon family is a member of, responded to the sentencing of the terrorist Omar al-Abed who was convicted of 3 counts of murder for murdering three members of the Salomon family in July 2017:
“The only way to curb the ongoing terror threat facing Israel is by creating true deterrence that will convince potential terrorists that they have more to lose than to gain. Therefore, it is necessary to implement the death penalty for convicted terrorists, facilitate the expulsion of their families to Gaza and greenlight home demolitions.”
“In addition,” continued Peleg, “there is also a need to reduce the lavish benefits that terrorists enjoy in Israeli jails. Only then do we have a chance of stopping this rampant industry of murder.”
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and his party are currently advancing legislation to apply the death penalty for convictions of terrorists who murdered.
