The Jerusalem Municipality has approved the promotion of about 1,000 housing units in the ‘Evacuation-Construction’ plans for four major projects in the neighborhoods of Gonim, Kiryat Yovel and Talpiot.
The local planning and building committee, which met on 7 Teves, recommended the deposit of 3 buildings included in the Evacuation-Building plan for urban renewal in the neighborhoods of San Martin 23-25, Kiryat Yovel – Zangwill 5-7 and Talpiot – Derech Hebron 8.
The promotion of the plans joins the District Committee’s approval last week for the plan on 14 Antigonus Street in the Gonim neighborhood. On 30 Kislev, the District Committee approved the “Evacuation of Construction” plan on Antigonus Street, promoted by the Cohen Shmuel Initiation and Investment Company.
The plan proposes the demolition of an existing building with 41 residential units and the construction of 164 residential units in four new buildings. The plan adds 123 new housing units.

Africa Israel won the addition of 68 new housing units in the tender of the entrepreneurs that took place in July 2016.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat: “Jerusalem has the potential to immediately establish more than 30,000 residential units through urban renewal, and one of our main tools is to increase the housing supply in the capital and to renew old housing units, while making more efficient use of the land. Urban Renewal through Evacuation-Construction is a physical and social opportunity to create a quality, pleasant, experiential and community environment with upgraded social services. In addition, the plans will bring about the renewal of municipal infrastructure and a high standard of living that will meet current needs, create a better public space, solve traffic and parking problems and significantly improve the quality of life in the city, including those located in low socioeconomic neighborhoods and neighborhoods with old infrastructures. In this way, the young couples will remain in Jerusalem.”
