Bill That Would Revoke Permanent Residency Of ‘Security Prisoner’ Moves Forward

The Knesset Law Committee on a bill that empowers the Minister of the Interior to revoke the permanent residency of a convicted terrorist (Security prisoner), approved the bill for a preliminary vote in Knesset. The bill was initiated by MK (Likud) Amir Ochana.

The High Court of Justice earlier in the year eliminated an 11-year-old decision from Interior Minister Roni Bar-On in which he revoked the residency of four eastern Jerusalem residents after being elected as Hamas representatives to the PA (Palestinian Authority) parliament.

If the bill is passed into law, the situation returns to what it was prior to the High Court knocking down the 11-year-old decision of Minister Bar-On.
