(VIDEOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)
Just a month ago, YWN reported about a Howell Police officer which detained a Lakewood couple for speeding as they were driving to the hospital with the woman in labor. The husband was given a speeding ticket – which caused a stir in the media. (See video below.)
Meanwhile in Israel, at about 8:00 this morning, Monday, 7 Teves, during routine traffic enforcement on the Begin Highway from north to south, at a time of heavy traffic, police noticed a private vehicle trying to make its way through the vehicles with great difficulty.
When police stopped the vehicle, they noticed the driver of the vehicle with his pregnant wife sitting next to her with active labor.
The policemen, who did not think twice, asked the husband to follow them using the loudspeakers in the police car, and for a few minutes paved the way between the vehicles until they reached Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Where the devoted care was given by the medical staff.
Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the police were informed that the birth had passed peacefully, and the mother and the newborn were B”H fine.

I respectfully ask to please reconsider this article: This story could be without the byline and content re:Howell it can just create animosity.
This is especially since the Howell police body cam seems to have more closely backed up the officer(yes I 1000% agree he should have not kept the driver even for a second or at the very least let off the driver with a warning) There is no point of slamming the cops, we need to be on good terms with the police. It’s a nice story without the jab at cops and can just lead to hatred and suffering to frum Jews that drive through Howell. Israeli police clear traffic and escort woman to hospital is enough of a nice piece to hold its own weight. Please reconsider to edit or remove
Thankyou
Get over it
Unlike in howell, in israel one can illegally set up a demonstartion to block traffic for days upon days and prevent people from going to work , to hospitals and doctors or even to attend thiet own weddings. etc.
That’s a very poor comparison. The driver is Israel was stuck in traffic and called police for an escort, he wasn’t doing 80 mph at night on a country road, breaking the law then asking asking for an escort. The cop was just doing his job and did it right, his job doesn’t allow him to escort people to a hospital in a different town, there is an ambulance service for that, and the cop repeatedly asked them if they want to call an ambulance and they refused, instead asking the cop what to do with the ticket, if he really was in a rush he would take the ticket and get on the road and worry about his ticket later. I’m on the cop’s side a 100%! there was no reason to blow this story out of proportion and cause hatred, and for the community to constantly be in the spot light. you wonder why they hate us? this driver broke the law then went to act like a victim. We need to stop thinking that we deserve every thing and we’re better than every one, the world doesn’t have to always revive around us. We also need to stop always playing victim, specially when we’re not.

I’m not a fan of the Israeli police at all, BUT, the Howell Cop should have been FIRED! yes, MOST of us felt and continue to feel that way!!!! FIRED!!!
This SHOULD be mentioned, again and again, we should not be made to forget since the whole corrupt Howell department stuck up for him. The name of that animal (aka Howell cop ) should be posted everywhere!
What an abuse of power and endangering the mother and baby. Driving 80 on a straight road is not the most dangerous thing. People do it all the time, on that road and I don’t remember the last accident from a speeding car on that road.
How about the speeding cops on curvy roads, do you excuse them of putting people endanger every day?.
@pilpel harif You sound so stupid! First of all, he only offered an Ambulance AFTER he made them wait over 6 minutes. Waiting for an ambulance at that point, would have resulted in a baby born on the side of the road. It is accepted to SPEED when there is an emergency, and whether its legal or not, it is common law. The cop, by not following COMMON sense, is the one who causes the hate. BTW, when a cop in Dallas, stopped an African American NFL player who passed a red light on way to hospital, he was fired (the cop did pull a gun, but main issue was that he made them wait, and didn’t let them get to hospital to dying family member).
I bet the woman was from Modi’in or RBS, because despite the size of these two cities, neither has a hospital or birthing clinic. It’s outrageous.
There’s a lot more traffic in Israel and it’s a lot harder to go anywhere fast.
