Shmuel HaNavi/Bar Ilan Junction in Jerusalem will be changed to Maran Junction after Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L. The Jerusalem Naming Committee approved the move in a vote on Sunday afternoon, 6 Teves.
The intersection is adjacent to Maran’s kever, which is located in Sanhedria Cemetery next to the intersection. There was discussion to possibly name Kablan Street in Har Nof after the rav, as he lived there for decades, but ultimately, the decision was made to name the major intersection after him, not Kablan Street.
The Committee further decided that the educational institutions complex in the mobile buildings complex in the Ramot Daled neighborhood will bear the name of the Maran HaGaon HaRav Sholom Elyashiv ZT”L.
