A junior officer of the rank of 2nd-leiutenant was removed from his position in the prestigious Maglan unit after the unit’s commander, Lt.-Colonel A learned the young officer permitted his soldiers to light a fire to cook on Yom Kippur, Yisrael Hayom reports on Thursday, 20 Cheshvan.
The officer who was removed was serving as a commander of new inductees in the unit and has since been reassigned.
According to the report, non-Observant soldiers approached him on the fast day and asked permission to cook. Permission was given, and they left the base and had a cookout.
The IDF Spokesman’s Office explains the soldier was reassigned for compromising the values of the military and giving permission to violate military regulations.
