The cabinet approved a list of changes intended to bring government offices to a more ‘green friendly’ level, opting to adopt measures that are more environmentally acceptable.
Some of the changes expected include official papers will be printed on both sides, internal faxes will now be sent by email, plastic water bottles will be replaced with non-disposable alternatives, and every office will have a sensor installed that turns out lights when unoccupied, all in the hope of bringing ecological compliance of the offices’ operations from 5% to 20% by the end of the decade.
In the future, the Environmental Ministry also plans to seek alternatives for the vehicles of cabinet ministers, seeking engines that do not rely totally on gasoline.
