Winter Driving Regulations Begin On November 1st In Israel


Beginning on Wednesday, November 1st, winter driving regulations go into effect throughout Israel. Winter regulations compel a driver to have the vehicle headlights on while traveling on an intercity road. Winter driving regulations continue through March 31, 2018.

Buses, taxis, motorcycles are required to have headlights on at all times, including while operating in an urban area. motorcycles must drive with headlights on year-round.

Transportation Ministry officials explain that the obligation to travel with lights on during the day is received at a particularly high level of compliance with the drivers. The fine for driving without lights on the day is 100 shekels plus two mandatory points on one’s license.

The Ministry of Transport sent a circular to all traffic safety officers to remind them of their duty to prepare the vehicles for the winter. Safety officers are required, inter alia, to ensure that the vehicle fleet under their responsibility performs proper checks of all safety systems in the vehicle.
