Peleg Protesters Smash Windows Of An Egged Bus In Kikar Shabbos

(VIDEO & PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Protests organized by the Peleg Faction along with the Eida Chareidis resumed on Thursday afternoon, at Kikar Shabbos and in Bnei Brak.

As the number of protesters grew, they shut down Kikar Shabbos for a time.

In this instance, they surrounded and blocked an Egged bus and smashed some of its windows. This occurred on Shivtei Yisrael/Meah Shearim. They claim the bus lightly tapped one of their protesters who was on a bicycle, trying to block the street.

The protests seen in the past week are becoming increasingly violent. Protesters on Shivtei Yisrael Street on Thursday afternoon also shut down light rail service, creating additional hardship for persons who often shop and do Shabbos-related errands on Thursday after work.

A number of arrests have been made.

  1. Now a prophecy from me. Time will most likely tell that the rate of eventually going OTD among these Yeshiva bacurim, will be far higher than the general rate for these level of frumkeit communities. In other words, they will get a little bit older and more mature and be appalled with the actions they were called upon to take.

So fathers of protesters, don’t ‘kvell’ but instead beware! Tell your children that you don’t agree with this activity. At least then, they could eventually look back at least at their father figure to be their representer of Yiddishkeit. It may save their life.

  2. Now let’s pretend that these “protesters” wore keffiyehs instead of black hats, and let me know how the police would react to this event. And now explain to me why their is a difference.

  3. So Egged knows what to do: stop running buses along Malchei Yisrael, Strauss, Shivtei Yisrael, Bar Ilan…. wherever the protesters demonstrate. Why should the drivers & law-abiding passengers be put at risk? A couple of weeks with no bus service & I guarantee these fanatics will be getting it from their wives, mothers and kids because they are stuck in their hovels.

  4. Biased reporting. Check your facts first. This was not a Peleg protest, just a few wild Reb Ahrelech from Meah Shearim. Peleg protestors never demonstrate in Meah Shearim. And contrary to popular belief and bad reporting, they don’t protest violently.

  5. dear dear yeshiva world don’t you realize that no sane person will believe that the peleg claims “they lightly tapped one of our protesters so we smashed their windows” obviously they at least claimed (as reported in the israeli news) that the bus hit a protester. common lets at least give the appearance of being unbiased against the bnei Torah

  6. Dear YWN, how about you hire some really good reporters and photographers?
Anyone can post a picture of a smashed window and claim whatever he likes.
    But that is not journalism…

  7. Sometimes you have to use your own seichel what the Torah demands of us. Before the churban Bar Kamtza was thrown out at the banquet and non of the Rabbonim sitting there were protested. This episode was the catalyst of bringing about the churban. Just because the particular rav you follow is quiet doesn’t mean you have a license to violate halacha.

  8. “and be appalled with the actions they were called upon to take”
Nobody has called upon them to behave this way. Period.

  9. to: an123—-“and contrary to popular belief Peleg DON’T protest violently???? REALLY? I suppose their protest al this week was very calm?????? Are you living in a dreamworld or fantasyland???? Constantly disrupting peoples lives and creating havoc and danger for innocent people isn’t exactly what we call a civilized and non-violent protest!!!!! You need to get the record straight and realize that these protests are a massive Chilul Shem Shomayim and just enhancing hatred towards the innocent frum yidden who shun the limelight of these hooligans……
