Israel’s police are continuing with their recent drive to strictly enforce the “Right Lane” rule. In the past 40 days more than 2,855 tickets were written across the country for drivers who continuously drove in the left lane. According to Israeli law, this is illegal as the left lane is meant to be used for passing and the right lane is meant to be used for driving.
This is a meteoric rise in the number of tickets issued, as in previous months the average amount of tickets was closer to 300 for the same infraction.
According to the law, a driver in ISrael must mainly use the right lane while driving as driving in the left lane is deemed to cause a disruption of the flow of traffic and delay the other drivers on the road, as it is primarily to be used as a passing lane.
Tickets issued for this infraction carry a 250 NIS fine and 6 demerit points on one’s license.
Israel traffic police have stated that they will continue to enforce this law and crack down on perpetrators. They have called on drivers to “pay more attention to using the right lane while driving and leaving the left lane vacant wherever possible. It is important to go back to utilizing the right lane primarily, in a safe and careful way.”

In a country who’s roads are overcrowded I fail to see how that will improve traffic.
