Months after it was destroyed due to the construction work, the historic stone sign was re-installed Tuesday morning 13 Tishrei at the entrance to Beit HaRav Kook.
The sign, which detailed and emphasized the history of the house, as well as the work of Rabbi Kook, was destroyed following the construction work that took place near the house. For a year and a half, members of Rabbi Kook’s House turned to the municipal authorities but their requests were unanswered. But after the intervention of Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Awakening Movement Ofer Berkowitz, a new sign was installed.
Berkowitz himself revealed a few days ago during a ‘Slichos Tour’ as he and others have been learning Rav Kook’s Torah for a sometime, calling it “Genius thought for a way of life”.
Berkowitz said at the hanging of the sign that Rabbi Kook’s house is a Jerusalem institution and symbol that we are obligated to protect: “I am proud that I had the privilege of helping with a small mosaic in the preservation of his heritage and promising that we will continue to work in Jerusalem, and its proud heritage”.
