Magen David Adom (MDA) reports responding to 2,229 emergency calls during Yom Kippur in which 1,659 were treated. Of that number, 1,355 were transported to hospitals around the country as compared to 2,326 people treated last Yom Kippur, of which 1,596 were transported to hospitals.
Among those treated were 228 persons who passed out or dehydrated as a result of the fast, 21 who were in cardiac arrest, and 54 treated in shuls and transported to a hospital. EMS teams responded to 134 calls for women in labor, resulting in seven pre-hospital deliveries in Majdal Shams, Kalansua, Modi’in Petach Tikvah, Carmiel, Jerusalem and Bnei Brak.
There were many injured from in bicycle-related mishaps; 265, as R”L for many Yom Kippur has become a day of bike riding. (This number includes skateboards, electric bikes and other similar riding devices). An additional 28 people were treated in vehicular accidents, including pedestrians struck by vehicles.
There were two incidents in which ambulances were attacked by Jewish youths throwing rocks while shouting “Yom Kippur” – in Akko and Ashdod.
