The purpose of the special vacation session of Knesset on Wednesday, 7 Tishrei, was to permit Shas member Meshulom Nahari become sworn in as a deputy minister. The meeting according to Knesset officials was a record-breaker; seven minutes and thirty-eight seconds. The session was conducted by Minister of Religious Services (Shas) David Azoulai, in the name of the government and party colleague Yitzchak Vaknin was the presiding speaker.
Shas MK Yigal Guetta resigned from Knesset. Then, Meshulam Nahari resigned as a deputy minister, and this was approved in a phone polling of cabinet ministers. Nahari was now permitted to immediately return to serving as a MK, which he was not. Only then, after being a MK, did he take the oath and once again return to his post as deputy minister.
Another record breaker connected to Guetta’s resignation is the appointment of Danny Saida to replace him. Saida served as a MK for 27 hours and was then replaced by Nahari, who was served Shas in Knesset from 1999 to 2016 and resigned when learning he was only to be appointed a deputy minister. However, he has now returned. However, Saida now holds the record as shortest serving MK.
Nahari was sworn into office, wishing everyone a Shana Tova. Three Shas members were at his side: Azoulai, Vaknin and Nahari as was one from Machane Tzioni, Hilik Bar.
