Beit Shemesh City Hall has in the past removed signs instructing persons passing through a neighborhood to dress modestly, acting in compliance with a court order after the signs were declared illegal.
Despite the city’s repeated efforts, the signs reappear in the Nahar Yarden area as was the case this weekend. When officials arrived to remove the signs on Sunday afternoon 19 Elul, they were attacked with rocks and one police vehicle’s windshield was smashed. Police arrested two persons for throwing rocks.

sick sad grow up
I was there when the first sign was removed in the morning – I took photos. Apart from the howling & wailing, the crowd was extremely passive. There were police there, but they didn’t have much to do at that time. Shortly after the sign was down, some genius managed to climb up and sprayed graffiti where the sign was. So I guess the city will cover the graffiti with unpaintable paint. Or not.

Why not just pay the municipality for the right to put up a sign? Legally, the sign is being removed because it is an unlicensed sign and not because of the content. I suspect that those putting up the signs know this and want the fighting as much if not more than the sign.
There is nothing illegal or threatening in the content of the sign so there should be no legal basis for denying a licence. If the real goal of this is כבוד שמיים then it should be done בדרכי שלום and not like this.
