Good news for the drivers in Israel. As of Sunday 28 Menachem Av, it will be possible to issue car licenses for the first time at the Israel Post branches throughout the country. This is part of the expansion of cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and the Israel Post.

Under the new arrangement, any driver whose license has expired and has not received the vehicle license for his address, or a driver whose license has been lost or stolen, may issue a new vehicle license at the post offices throughout the country.

In the first stage, it will be possible to issue the vehicle license at 14 branches of Israel Post throughout the country; Jerusalem, Haifa, Tiveria, Afula, Kiryat Shmona, Sakhnin, Beersheva, Ashdod, Holon, Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan and Netanya. At the beginning of September, the service will be extended to all 700 Israel Post offices throughout the country.

Anyone who wishes to issue vehicle licenses by mail will be required to present an identity card. The service at the Israel Post branches will not be granted to vehicle license holders, who are subject to restrictions by the state authorities (Execution Office, Court, etc.). Changes in the vehicle license will not be possible at the post offices, such as updating personal information and technical changes in the vehicle. An appointment can be made in advance to the post offices via the postal service website, by phone 171 or in the Israel Post application on the mobile phone.

It should be noted that from May 2017 a driver’s license may be issued at each of the 700 post offices in Israel. To date, tens of thousands of driving licenses have been issued at the Israel Post branches. The Ministry of Transport estimates that the expansion of the service to all the post offices will increase the number of applicants to the post office in order to issue licenses.

Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz, said that allowing citizens to issue driver’s licenses and vehicles by mail would significantly improve public service. “The accessibility of licensing services to the citizen will save him the need to get to the licensing offices and enable him to receive service close to his home and at flexible hours,” he added.

The issuance of vehicle licenses by mail is carried out within the framework of expanding the variety of possibilities that the Ministry of Transportation provides to the public for licensing services, including the issuance of a driver’s license and vehicle, via the Internet, the call center (* 5678) and Rishomet positions (through a credit card of the driver or vehicle license holder) located in dozens of branches of SuperPharm and other centers.
