The Rishon L’Tzion Magistrate Court has extended the remand of the head of the outlawed northern branch of the Israel Islamic Movement, Sheikh Raid Salah. Salah has been imprisoned by Israel many times for his active connection to Hamas and his support for acts of terror. The court has extended his remand until Thursday, 25 Menachem Av.
He was arrested on incitement and supporting acts of terror, which police fear will lead to actual attacks. During recent interviews, Salah praised terrorists who are willing to become Shahids, adding by bringing him to court it is tantamount to placing the Koran on trial.
Salah was released from Rimon Prison in Israel in January after serving a nine-month sentence for breaking laws prohibiting incitement and violence. He was sentenced to eleven months but appealed and the High Court reduced the sentence to nine months.
