Hundreds of Israeli Arab citizens took part in violent motzei in the Yaffo area of Tel Aviv.
Shouts of ‘Allahu Akbar’ could be heard among heard from protesters as police closed down the area road. A Channel 2 News corresponded was injured as a result of being attacked while the funeral was taking place. He was treated and transported to Ichilov Hospital. He remains in the hospital. There was also damage to store windows and police vehicles.
During the predawn hours on Shabbos morning, police were summoned to Yefet Street in Yaffo amid reports of “hearing gunfire”. They found a number of people on scooters trying to flee their arrival. A chase followed during which there was gunfire and one of the suspects died as a result of the gunfire.
The riots were in response to the shooting death of an Arab male, 22, who earlier in the day was apprehended on involvement in a fatal shooting and tried to flee from police. When they got hold of him and tried to restrain him, he was violent and injured one officer with his helmet and then tried to flee on a motorized scooter.
The policeman involved in the shooting explains he repeatedly called on the fleeing suspect to halt but he did not, so he fired at the wheels of his motorized scooter, striking him.
