In past years, IDF reservists reporting to reserve duty were entitled to vouchers for buses or trains to reach their destination. IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz has implemented a new policy by which they will also be entitled to payment for their gasoline as it is common for many reservists to report in their own vehicle rather than using public transportation. In the past, there was no system in place to reimburse soldiers for the cost of gas.
Ganz feels that in most cases reservists do not wish to be dependent on bus schedules and therefore use their private vehicle and he feels it is time for the military to reimburse them for the expense.
