Following Attacks, Beit Shemesh City Hall Decides To Shoot The Dogs

There have been a number of attacks involving stray dogs in Beit Shemesh of late, leading city officials to issue a directive to shoot the strays. Some officials would be armed with rifles and patrol the streets from 3:00AM to 7:00AM in the hope of finding and shooting the strays.

After announcing the new policy on Facebook, Beit Shemesh City Hall came under fire, with some expressing outrage over the decision to shoot the strays.

The city’s posting added the shooting of the dogs is approved under law, and the act would be carried out by trained veterinary sharpshooters.

Officials in the Agriculture Ministry are quoted telling Yisrael Hayom it agrees with the decision, citing at times; the matter of strays attacking persons is a real issue and it must be addressed.

  1. Shooting is done by technicians of the Ministry of Agriculture or by Nature Reserve Officers specially trained with special rifles under police supervision

  2. BH. There have been so many attacks.
So many children traumatized by these stray dog attacks. It is great the city is taking action.

  3. Celebration is a bit premature- there is already a court injunction started by the animal rights groups to block the plan.
The city has been trying to deal with these dangerous dogs for months, but their hands have been tied because of the rights groups. For example, I remember seeing in the local paper that they were only allowed to catch a dog that they saw in a populated area, but were not allowed to find the dogs in their dens. As soon as they would approach one dog, the pack runs off, but they were not allowed to follow them. Apparently, here Dog Lives Matter more than the people they attack.

  4. About time… some of the injuries are horrific and the attacks are getting worse. I see the dogs, they own the place. Now what to do about all the saboteurs – who have now started making death threats to people I know who are active in the fight to get rid of the dogs.

  5. Simple solution private individuals should take care of it without making any noise about it (a silencer might help.) Do it at night, wear a hood if needed. There will be no one to protest against. Legal council should be taken but I don’t believe there should be trouble.
