A three-justice panel of the High Court headed by Justice Yoram Danziger invalidated the compromise to end the Hadassah Hospital crisis involving the pediatric hematology-oncology unit. The court ruled “Only in the framework of the hematology-oncology unit like the one existing in Hadassah and other medical centers in Israel, can the best treatment possible be provided to children requiring it”.
The court sided with the Health Ministry against the parents of the children being treated at Hadassah. “We found no cause to issue an order regarding the opening of a hematology-oncology unit in Shaare Zedek Medical Center”, adding “The suffering and distress of the parents whose children are struggling with this dreaded disease are touching, and we are convinced they are striving to achieve the optimal treatment for their children. We felt that mediation headed by Amnon Rubinstein set a stage for optimal results and great efforts were made to find a mutually agreeable solution but it did not happen. Hence, there is no choice but to render a decision”.
