As Israelis are enduring the second consecutive day of a major heatwave, Israel Electric Company (IEC) officials report breaking the record for electricity demand compared to the summer of 2016.

In the summer of 2016, the record was 12,798 megawatts, but this record was shattered on Sunday, the first day of the heatwave, when demand reached 12,438 and then again on Monday at 2:49PM when demand hit 12,708.

The all-time record was back on September 9, 2015, when demand hit 12,907.
