Litzman Is Not Concerned With Bennet’s View Of Kosel Situation

Health Minister Yaakov Litzman told Kol Chai Radio that he is not concerned with Bayit Yehudi party leader Naftali Bennet’s view towards Reform and Conservative Jewry and his understanding of the Kosel situation. Bennet explained that while the religious status quo regarding the Kosel is frozen to prevent the establishment of an egalitarian prayer area at Robinson’s Arch, such an area already exists at the Kosel HaDromi.

Litzman however explained to Kol Chai that he is confident Bennet will not take any steps that are contrary to the position of Shas and Yahadut Hatorah despite the fears of some. Litzman explains he too is compelled to adhere to coalition agreement pertaining to the religious status quo.

He added, the chareidi parties are hoping the Giyur Bill will pass during this term and they are working hard towards achieving this goal. He explained there are many bills that chareidi parties back because they are compelled to do so by coalition discipline, despite the fact some are not exactly what they would like and they expect the same regarding giyur; sending a hint to coalition partners like Avigdor Lieberman, who oppose the bill but is expected to vote in favor of it nonetheless.

  1. cant understand why people who dont fast on Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days of the year, and treat shabbos like any other day, and some of whom dont even believe in the existence of Hashem, nor of the divinity of his Torah, and not even in the 10 commandments (shabbos is one of them), stubbornly insist on convening groups davka by such a crowded and contested area- let them go anywhere else! what significance does the kosel hamaaravi have to them?!

The problem is that all holy and historic sites are supposed to be accessible to everyone. The egalitarian section is necessary in order to ensure that their lunacy does not leave their side and come into ours. If it isn’t approved, we run the risk of the Supreme Court allowing Reform services and other unholy events happening in our section. Approving the third section isn’t giving them a stamp of approval. It is a quarantine.
