Major-General Yair Naveh: ‘Unilateral Disengagement From Gaza Was A Mistake’

Former IDF Central District Commander Major-General Yair Naveh announced that in retrospect, he realizes the expulsion from Gaza, which is now Hamastine, was a mistake. He highlighted that twelve years after the move, it is clear Israel has not gained any security or diplomatic advantage.

At the time Ariel Sharon, the “Disengagement Plan” architect, promised the world a delusionary picture that resembled anything but reality, but being the charismatic decorated general that he was, he persuaded the Knesset to go with the tragic plan. He dared to promise there would be no more rocket fire over the border.

Today, words are not required after close to 10,000 people were uprooted, along with shuls, yeshivot, mikvaot, and kevarim R”L, all in the name of an unattainable peace with leaders genuinely uninterested in living side-by-side with Israel.

Naveh made his comments in an interview with Yisrael Hayom, he stated “”If the disengagement from Gaza contributed anything to history, it did so by proving that terrorism has nothing to do with the settlement enterprise, and by proving that an eviction of this nature cannot be carried out in such a way again.

“There was no advantage to this eviction. None. Zero. Nothing has changed for the better there. It had no added value to security or to anything else. It was a frustrating event that left a feeling that it was all for nothing”.
