The Knesset on Wednesday, 20 Sivan, passed a bill in its preliminary reading, a bill to combine the nation’s emergency numbers. The bill is sponsored by MKs Uri Maklev and Moshe Gafne.
The law addresses a National Emergency Authority which would mimic America’s 911 system, receiving all police, fire and ambulance emergency calls instead of continuing today’s system in which one calls 100, 102 and 101 respectively. Calling this number would be toll free and a dispatcher would respond immediately.
54 Members of Knesset voted in favor, and there were no abstentions. The bill now go to the Ministerial Economics Committee where it will be prepared for its first of three readings which are required to make it law.

In case anybody reads this who might have contact with the approprate parties,I would like to suggest that this be taken one step further in order to utilize the possibilities that modern technology offers. Specifically to develop an app for the use of all citizens which will enable them, to not only access emergency services vocally, but would open the phone camera for an immediate direct feed and GPS for an immediate location of the caller. Sometimes in real time emergencies, with time being of the essence, people can be in shock, freeze, and are not able to give over all of the vital information quickly enough.
