Beginning In August, Stricter Environmental Standards For Garbage Trucks In Israel

The Ministry of Environmental Affairs announced that beginning in August 2017, Euro 4 environmental standards will be in effect in Israel towards reducing pollution. This will impact 37 fleets of garbage collection vehicles.

Special emphasis is being placed on garbage trucks, which operate in residential areas and significantly contribute to pollution, especially when stopped and the compressor is activated to push garbage inside the vehicle.

There are 1,800 garbage trucks registered in Israel today and about 15% of them do not meet Euro 4 pollution standards.

In order to assist in compliance with the new environmental standard, KKL is offering a 10-million-shekel budget to compliant companies meeting tender standards to upgrade vehicles. Selected garages around Israel have been selected after agreeing to offer subsidized rates towards bringing trucks up to the new standard, paying 6,000 shekels, which is reportedly 85% of the conversion cost per truck. The budget from KKL is reportedly sufficient to accommodate the trucks requiring conversion.
