Chief Rabbi of Israel Rav Dovid Lau Shlita launched a major attack against the Chief Rabbi of Shoham and head of Tzohar Rabbonim, Rabbi David Stav. The attack is prompted by the kashrus reforms being led by Rabbi Lau, with the latter responding to criticism against the reforms made to the media by Rav Stav.

Rabbi Lau addressed a kenos for rabbonim in Tiveria, stating “He speaks without reading or knowing and without understanding. He does not read because the first line contains a statement he wants to change. A rav of a city gets up and speaks in the name of many rabbonim. What sphericalness which does nothing to contribute to strengthening Yahadut, nor does it bring kovod to Yahadut”.

Rav Lau added, if one has a comment then one should come forward and say it. Come and speak but don’t just come and disqualify everything – it is disgusting and shameful. What do you attack without having first read? Then he goes on talking and I hear him and he speaks without understanding what he is talking about. The main thing is his voice is heard. That is how we add to Yiddishkheit? Read it and learn it!”

Rav Stav has not issued a statement responding to Rabbi Lau’s criticism against him.
