The government on Sunday, 3 Sivan, approved a program initiated by Housing Minister Yoav Galant, Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Minister Chaim Katz, Minister Miri Regev and Minister Gila Gamliel, the Kosel Elevator. The initiative has been delayed for 13 years.

After the approval, the project is being moved along and all necessary permits issued to avoid delays.

The NIS 50 million elevator project will permit the elderly and disabled access to the Kosel Plaza as well as the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. Most of the sum will come from government ministries led by the Housing Ministry and Ministry of Tourism.

The elevator’s pier will reach a depth of 26 meters from Misgav Ladach Street to the Kosel. There will be a walking tunnel of 65 meters to connect between the elevator’s exit to the security inspection area of the Kosel.

Galant said “The Kosel represents the heart of the Jewish People and we are spending a million shekels for every year since it was liberated, 50 million. Last week, President Trump also stated there can be no break in the connection between the Kosel and the Jewish People”.
