Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita released a psak on motzei Shabbos during his weekly shiur that soldiers compelled to attend an event that includes ‘kol isha’ should bring a sefer, take out one’s [reading] glasses and show ostentatiously that one is not listening to the singing but one’s head is occupied learning Torah.

While speaking about women performing, he explains that when he must attend a ceremony in his official capacity, at times there is a female performer. He explains he would take a small sefer in hand and take out his glasses and look at the sefer directly opposite his eyes to most conspicuous. This way, others in the area, including the prime minister and president, would see he is not listening to the female performer as his head is buried in the sefer.

The rav also spoke of the honor of woman and modest dress, citing that if only the non-frum would only come to realize just how respected the woman is in religious Jewry, that she is not an animal but one who must preserve her honor and modesty.
