Monday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


A bomb was discovered near the city hall parking spot of Nahariya Mayor Jackie Sabag. The bomb, which was discovered by a maintenance worker, was dismantled without incident. The incident appears underworld related.

** The second armored jeep stolen from a southern IDF base on Shabbos was found burned. Investigators report that after removing valuable parts from the vehicle it was set ablaze. The first jeep was recovered on Sunday. The thieves apparently entered the base via a hole in the fence that was documented a long time ago but never repaired.

** The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court sentenced a Tzur Bahar resident of the eastern capital to 3 months imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 after learning he is married to three women.

** During 2011 the average Israeli drank 900 glasses of milk amounting to 180 liters, the dairy council reports. This past year brought a 2% hike in the consumption of dairy products. The most popular cheese remains the white spreadable type, with the nation consuming 53,000 tons.
