Dozens of activists from Im Tirtzu and other Zionist organizations demonstrated Wednesday 14 Iyar against the annual Nakba Day ceremony held at Tel-Aviv University.
Activists waved Israeli flags, chanted pro-Israel slogans and distributed booklets titled “Nakba Nonsense,” which were also converted into audiobooks and handed out on USB flash drives.
Im Tirtzu activists also brought a 12-by-6-foot sign upon which “Nakba Nonsense“ was written and handed out Tortit candy bars, poking fun at terrorist Marwan Barghouti who was caught secretly eating the candy bar during his highly publicized hunger strike.
Last year, the organization brought a 15-foot tall inflatable Pinocchio doll in order to “emphasize the lie of the Nakba.”
Joint List MKs Aida Touma-Suleiman and Yousef Jabareen participated in the ceremony, along with convicted terrorist Muhammad Kanaaneh who sat in jail for aiding Hezbollah.
Im Tirtzu CEO Matan Peleg said that the goal of the Nakba to undermine the existence of the State of Israel.
“We cannot afford the luxury of allowing this anti-Israel propaganda to go unchallenged,” said Peleg. “We are here sending a clear message that we will not be silent in the face of this deceitful attempt to rewrite history.”
“It is important to unapologetically call the Nakba what it is: nonsense,” added Peleg.
