Health Minister Yaakov Litzman attended a ceremony sponsored by Israel Electric Company (IEC) marking the introduction of additional chareidim into the utility company.
The chareidim entering the utility company were praised by Litzman, who explained they are opening a door that was closed for many years. The chareidim will be employed in the utility’s ‘103’ information center in Beersheva.
IEC CEO Yiftach Ron Tal explained the utility remains committed to hiring people from all sectors of Israeli society including the disabled. He explained “Hiring chareidim is part of our developing and today, there are 100 chareidim working the information centers of the company. Customer service is critical and these employees are among the others who are trained to provide quality customer care to our clients”.
Nine workers began in the Beersheva center and they join 28 chareidi females who have been working there. The Beersheva center also employs personnel from the Bedouin, Ethiopian, Druse and FSU communities, providing a response to callers speaking many different languages.

What possible barriers have there been or exist today towards hiring chareidim by the IEA, assuming they were able to satisfy the requirements of the job?? Is this some new program that will offer training in basic communication and computer skills that for the most part are not taught in the chareidi schools or is there some insinuation that the IEA had discriminated against Chateidim in hiring?
Are charaidim supposed to only learn Torah or are they to get secular education and get jobs?
