In a letter dated a few months ago, the Chief Rabbinate of Israel explains there is much importance surrounding Lag B’Omer and the site of the kvura of the Rashbi.
It is pointed out that this year Lag B’Omer is motzei Shabbos, and R”L, this has led to chilul Shabbos in the past among many, especially among members of security and emergency services, who must prepare on Shabbos, as well as municipality officials.
The Chief Rabbinate Council turns to all involved parties to delay lighting Lag B’Omer bonfires on Sunday, and for the Ministry of Education to push off Lag B’Omer vacation a day.
The letter is signed by Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita and Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau Shlita.
