After serving in the post for eleven years, Itamar Bar-Ezer is stepping down as head of the Chareidi Education Unit in Jerusalem City Hall. His announced plans to step down will undoubtedly lead to friction between Yahadut Hatorah and Shas, as each will desire the prestigious and most powerful post.

For Bar-Ezer, he is moving to a more senior post in City Hall. His announced planned departure two years prior to the expiration of his term has preempted a great deal of political movement on the local scene in the capital.
