Tuesday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


A Degani Poll shows 65% of Israeli feel anyone caught intoxicated in public should be jailed for a mandatory 24 hour period. This includes walking on the sidewalk, on the beach or any and all public areas.

** A Knesset committee voted in favor of a law making it illegal to send or receive email while driving. This is in addition to the current law addressing SMS text messages. The new law is expected to carry a 1,000 NIS fine.

** The Central Bureau of Statistics announced that average national salary in February was 8,774 NIS (gross salary), representing a 1.5% decline from January 2012.

** PA’s Dr. Saeb Erekat is listed in stable condition in a Ramallah hospital after suffering a heart attack.

** IDF soldiers taking part in counterterrorism operations throughout Yehuda, Shomron and the Jordan Valley during the night arrested 12 suspects.

** With the new deal made with Kadima, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s government now includes 94 of the 120 seat Knesset. This is the largest coalition in Knesset history.

** YNET: Interpol President Khoo Bon Hui said at the organization’s European Regional Convention that is taking place in Tel Aviv that some 10,000 cyber attacks occur in Israel every minute.
