Eida Advising Followers To Remain In The Diaspora Due To IDF Draft And Arrests

In a new pashkavil signed in the name of Eida Gavaad HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss Shlita, Eida Chareidis Ravaad HaGaon HaRav Moshe Sternbuch Shlita and other members of the beis din, it explains that in light of the military draft and the arrest of persons who do not report for service, the Badatz is recommending to its tzibur to remain in the Diaspora rather than moving to Eretz Yisrael.

It is added “We will not rest and we will not remain silent in Israel or abroad until permitted to maintain a Torah lifestyle and who can say if we will be permitted to continue living here in Eretz HaKodesh. Certainly, if the current situation continues, we will weigh the possibility to moving abroad to the Diaspora, which we hope will not occur. We are calling for an end to the gezeira and the release of the prisoners”.

  1. Why don’t these rabbonim explore some middle ground whereby their talmidim can enlist for some form of national service (working in schools, hospitals, home assistance for the elderly etc) in lieu of the military service they find so offensive. If they want to continue living in EY, the must be convinced of their obligation to provide some contribution to the Medinah (other than constantly demonstrating against the government and disrupting life for most residents who struggle to feed their families and keep them safe).

  2. No, they do not write that “the Badatz is recommending to its tzibur to remain in the Diaspora”.

They write that if the situation continues, then they will consider making such a Horo’oh.

    There’s a world of difference.

  3. Anything signed by the Ga’avad and the Beis Din cannot be considered a pashkavil! Please stop misusing the term and show respect for these gedolim.

  4. The Eida is known to be very lopsided in regards to the army and the state.

If you simply comply with the army’s request to prove you are an avraich, there is no problem.
