Magen David Adom’s “Life Rider” unit is part of the organization’s Sheirut Ezrachi program. As reported earlier, volunteer EMTs who join the “Life Riders” are given electric bicycles to use to respond to calls to begin treating until an ambulance arrives.
The first electric bicycle has made its way to the chareidi city of Betar Illit, assigned to EMT Moshe Tzanwirt (משה צענווירט), a member of the first volunteers of the organization’s Sheirut Ezrachi program. While Moshe is a member of the community’s ambulance team, the electric bike will also permit him to respond from his home.
Two weeks ago, MDA Chief of Operations Eli Bin visited with Sheirut Leumi volunteers and it was during that event he heard how Moshe would at times run from his home to respond to calls near him. Bin committed to have an electric bicycle assigned to him, which he has received as seen in the accompanying photos.
This is the first of the Life Rider unit being assigned to the community towards improving response time.
The Sheirut Ezrachi program operates under the direction of the national MDA administration. On a day-to-day basis, the man with his ‘hand on the pulse’ is Jerusalem District Deputy Commander Avi Chovav, who sees to it that the program continues functioning as it does.
