Local Shas Opposition Party Joins Rank With Shas

It was during the tenure of Eli Yishai as Shas party leader than a small opposition party formed in Petach Tikvah called “Yishai”, enlisting the Petach Tikvah Yemenite community. During the municipal elections, the party earned enough votes for a seat on the city council.

Today, Yishai party Councilman Benny Zahavi announced his resignation from the council, permitting the entry of Moshe Tzelach. His replacement did not waste time, announcing he is moving over to Shas, bringing the machlokes on the municipal level to an end.

With Tzelach’s decision to move to Shas, the latter becomes the largest party in the city council with four seats.

Shas party leader praised the move and the achdus that results from Tzelach’s decision.

  1. Why is there a picture of Eli Yishai who doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the story? (not even sure why petach tikvah’s city council is news)
