In response to growing demand for electricity, Israel Electric Company (IEC) is embarking on a NIS 50 million upgrade in Jerusalem, during which the underground high-voltage cable between Teddy Stadium and the Egged garage on Baram Street is being upgraded. The work is scheduled to be completed in December 2017.
As a result of an increase in demand for electric in the city, the cable is being run to provide increasingly reliable service. The new underground cable connects between two underground substations; one adjacent to Teddy Stadium and the second in near Kibbutz Ramat Rachel. Another substation is planned near the Egged parking lot on Baram in the future.
The route of the project is from Teddy parking lot via the bike path of Elmaliach Park (Prepatory work done in this section so digging is not necessary) via Beit Tzefafa, Moshe Baram (southern sidewalk) to the Egged parking facility.
IEC district chief Moshe Cohen explains the infrastructure has been set into place in a number of venues in the capital for the future, including the Arena Stadium, the bike path, Begin Highway southern sidewalk. Cohen stresses the underground line takes environmental concerns into consideration including ound, esthetics, dust and quality of life.
