Following months of discussion, the Ministry of Religious Services has decided to compel Kfar Saba’s elderly chief rabbi to step down, HaGaon HaRav Avraham Shalush Shlita. This is being done despite a promise made by Minister of Religious Services (Shas) David Azoulai that the rov would not be forced out against his will.
However, in this case, it appears the Ministry’s legal counsel, Zohar Porat, sees things differently, sending a letter to the head of the Kfar Saba Religious Council, Shoshan Treblasi.
In the letter Porat writes that in light of the result of the hearing given to the rav and as per the instructions of the Justice Ministry, the rav’s term will end on Wednesday, 24 Adar 5777. Mr. Teblasi is informed the elderly rav is being forced into retirement and he must therefore prepare the necessary paperwork and stop paying his salary.

I believe the Rav is in his mid 80s- isn’t there a retirement ruling???
There should not be for a Rav.
@zionflag
you know halacha has an opinion on this, right?
It’s properly spelled “Shloush.”
How many supporters of this decision would go to get a bracha from Rav Shteinerman given the chance? Unless a Rav is showing signs of “losing it”, a Rav should keep his position. This sounds very callous.
The older a rav is, the more wisdom he has, the more daas Torah he has. Rav Eliyshuv at 100 was as keen as ever. We need our older rabbonim, they should be cherished and not forced to retire. Torah has no retirement age.
